Battle Creek Tried to Subpoena Me

"If you go down there, they'll start harassing you,
like they did me,"
(allegedly)...

Yes, he had warned me.  But out of the blue last year, I decided to listen to a video recording on AccessTV of the last Battle Creek City Commission meeting.  They had a guest speaker that night, the one and only Dennis McKee, our electric company's smart* meter representative.

Dennis is a charismatic man who reminds me of "Mr. Clean."  From my experience, he is very polite and well spoken.  And there seemed to be no question in the city commissioner's minds that smart meters were the next best thing to  (fill in the blank) .

Because of my experience, I felt the commissioners needed to know what the electric company and mainstream media weren't saying about the new meters.  They needed to know that some people become sick after smart meter installation.  Some without even knowing a new public utility meter had been installed.

So I started going to city commission meetings, telling them of my experience with new electronic AMR ERT natural gas public utility meters (which aren't technically called "smart," but they do send pulses of radiofrequency radiation in the microwave range over 450,000 times per month, non-stop), and also sharing scientific information with proof of harm from smart meters.

I shared smart meter stories of fires, illness, over-charging, and cyber security threats.  Month after month, after month I went and shared.

I asked them to pass a Resolution supporting House Bill 4916, the Analog Utility Meter Choice bill, which allows public utility customers to keep analog (non-electronic) public utility meters without having to pay extra to do so.  After all, the old analog meters have been around for eons and didn't make people sick, start fires, over-charge, or create a cyber security threat.

When I asked them for 100% proof that "smart" meters were safe for humans, they couldn't provide it.  And it didn't seem to matter to them that they couldn't.  And it didn't seem to matter to them that the precautionary principle was being completely ignored in regards to smart meter "roll-out," either.

They just wanted to "agree to disagree" with me.

"I told you they were going to start harassing you,"
(allegedly)...

Indeed he had, and he was right (allegedly).  Police officers began visiting us...

The first one came up the driveway, and was a very nice and polite female officer.

"You're here to harass her,"
(allegedly), he said to her sternly...

No, she just wanted to ask me a few questions about an incident that had happened at a previous city commission meeting I had attended.  The incident occurred behind me, behind the audience seating area, in the hallway, while I was up at the podium in the front of the room, giving my three minute General Public Comment about smart meters.

I didn't hear what was being said behind me, behind the audience seating area, in the hallway, while I was speaking.  So I told the kind officer,

"I appreciate all that you do to serve and protect the citizens of Battle Creek, however,
I do not want to get involved."

And so she left.  Not happy, but peacefully.

On another day, we found a younger male police officer parked in his cruiser just outside the gate on the private road.  When we asked him why he was there, he said he was doing paperwork.  He was a very nice and polite man, and didn't say anything about questioning me.  He was just doing his paperwork, and said something about there not being much coverage on this side of town.

The last ones that visited were two officers in training, also known as cadets.  They were the ones with the subpoena for me.

"You're here to harass her,"
(allegedly), he told them....

They denied it, and told him about the subpoena they had for me.  He then proceeded to give them an earful, telling them he had warned me about being harassed (allegedly) if I went to city commission meetings to complain.

I don't know how long he talked to them, but eventually the two cadets also left peacefully, and without delivering the subpoena to me.

Later, I called the police station and asked to speak to the cadets who had been looking for me, in hopes of finding out exactly why they wanted to subpoena me.

The woman who answered the phone at the police department was very polite also.  She checked, but the two cadets were in training and not available to talk with me.

So I shared my suspicions with the woman who answered the phone, that perhaps they wanted to subpoena me regarding the incident that happened in the hallway behind me, behind the audience seating area, during a city commission meeting, while I was giving my General Public Comment at the podium...

"I don't know about you, but when I'm talking,
I don't really hear what others are saying," I told her...

I went on to say that my back was to the incident.  However, the Mayor, Vice Mayor, all the commissioners, and everyone else seated in the front were all looking directly at the incident.  In fact, I stopped talking to them from the podium when I saw the Mayor's eyes divert away from me, to behind me in the direction of the hallway.  He was looking right at the incident.

If they wanted to subpoena me, I said, everyone seated up front facing the incident during that city commission meeting needed to be subpoenaed as well.  She agreed.

So I left a message for the cadets with the subpoena to call me back.  That was two weeks ago, and they haven't yet.

We haven't had another police officer visit, either.  Though I haven't been back to a city commission meeting, either.

At least the City of Battle Creek Water Department offers a smart meter "opt-out" (to a program we never opted-into, in the first place).  Twenty-dollars a month (unless it's gone up by now) will keep an unnecessary microwave radiation pulsing device from the City of Battle Creek's Water Department off your home.

Such a deal.

Not.

*When I use the term "smart meter," I am referring to ALL new non-analog pubic utility meters.  They've been called a lot of different things, and the names have changed a few times.  But the one thing they all have in common is that they are electronic and not analog.

Rapidly Changing Times

Following is the three minute comment I gave at the December 1st Battle Creek City Commission meeting.

The video of the meeting is here.  "General Public Comments" begins at about 48:00 and my comment begins at about 53:40.

~

I'm here to talk about the wireless technology that is being used by the Water Department, and all over.

We are living in rapidly changing times. When I was growing up in Chicago, no one had a cell phone, not even the Moms.

  • Today, most Moms and children have cell phones.

We are now also seeing more and more schools installing WiFi for wireless laptops and tablets the students use on a daily basis.
  • There was no WiFi, not even in Chicago, when I was growing up.
And recently we’ve been introduced to smart meters, though not all of the new wireless utility meters are called smart meters. Some are called encoder-receiver-transmitters. But the one thing they all have in common is that they are wireless devices that communicate with cell towers or antennas by sending multiple micro-pulses of radiation throughout our homes, and our bodies, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This is what is called continuous low-level exposure.

Cancer clusters have been developing in areas where people live, work, or go to school close to cell towers.

People are developing cancerous tumors in body areas where cell phones are held or stored.

Some parents have sued their child’s school, claiming the WiFi is making their children very sick. Parents are forming independent groups for safer use of technology in schools because they can see the harmful effects wireless has on their children, yet school officials aren't doing anything.

We hear small children describing “flash headaches” while walking by a smart meter, and heart palpitations when opening up wireless laptops in schools.

Current FCC guidelines are based upon the assumption that wireless signals are received from just ONE transmitting antenna at a distance. However, we are no longer exposed to just one transmitting antenna, let alone at a distance.

Within a 4 mile radius of where we are right now, you wont believe how many cell towers.  Guess!  Eighty-one.  There are 81 cell towers and 253 antennas.

We have not gone one generation with the level of wireless technology that is commonplace today. The science is showing that it’s long-term continuous low-level exposure that leads to serious injury in health.  See EMFscientist.org

If we are to error in regards to wireless technology, is it not best that we error on the side of caution?

Thank you for listening ~ May We All Truly Be Blessed!

November 10th City Commission Meeting

A resolution establishing an opt-out choice was on the agenda for the November 10, 2015 Battle Creek City Commission meeting.  Because it was a "Resolution," I had five minutes to speak about it, and not the usual three.

No matter how many Resolutions are on the agenda, the City of Battle Creek allows Citizens only five minutes to comment on the resolutions.  So if there are five resolutions and I want to comment on each one, that would be one minute per comment.  If there are more than five Resolutions and I wanted to comment on each one, I would have less than 60 seconds for each comment.  They say that they want our comments, and value public input, but only so much, you see.  Doesn't really seem fair, but it is what it is.

Here's what I said about the smart meters (they are now calling them "electronic meter reading technology") and the proposed opt-out program:
I speak not only for myself, but for many others.
I speak not only to the Water Department, but to all of our utility companies who have done this to us.
You changed the utility meters without public consent or consensus.
You sometimes forced the new electronic meters on with threat of service shut-off.
You sometimes lied to us, or did not tell us the whole truth about the equipment in order to get it installed.
The only documentation of safety you have is propaganda from the manufacturer, citing FCC guidelines.  The FCC is not a health protection agency. The FCC is a private, For-Profit corporation listed on Dunn & Bradstreet that has its investor’s best interest in mind, not the general public.
The new electronic meters have a questionable history, and they are being rejected by citizens, not just in the United States, but all over the world. You won’t see that on mainstream media. But it is true.
Many cities have banned electronic meters due to health, safety, and privacy issues.
Utility company executives admit that the new electronic meters last only about 5 to 7 years before needing replaced.  (See http://bit.ly/1N9B52w)
  • The old analog meters lasted about 30 years, sometimes much longer.
Utility company executives admit to “catastrophic failures” and inaccurate billing with the new electronic meters.  (See http://bit.ly/1k8Fn3n)
  • The old analog meters did not have a history of “catastrophic failures” or inaccurate billing.
There are literally thousands of studies that prove biological harm is done by the new electronic meters.  (See below)
  • The old analog meters did not cause biological harm.
There are nuclear radiation experts that say the radiation exposure from one electronic meter, when corrected for whole-body and cumulative effect, is 50 to 160 times that of a cell phone.  (See http://bit.ly/1MHFf6I)
  • The old analog meters do not emit any form of electromagnetic frequencies and did not irradiate us.
I have been harmed by electronic meters. Up to 12% of the population IS electromagnetically hypersensitive, which means that over 6,000 people in Battle Creek may become harmed by the new electron meters.
  • I was never harmed by any of the old analog meters.
One of your installers actually told a resident to NOT sleep within about 15 feet of one of the new electronic meters.
  • We were never told to keep any sort of distance away from the old analog meters, because we didn’t need to, because they did not irradiate us.
The old analog meters worked fine, didn’t harm anyone, and had withstood the test of time.
  • We can not say that about the new electronic meters
I was going to say that I am all for the Opt-Out program, but many of us never opted-in, in the first place.
And regarding the fees: If someone tells you that you are hurting them by what you are doing, is it morally correct for you to tell them:
  • “I will stop hurting you, but only if you pay?”
Thank you for listening. May you all truly be blessed.
(End of that comment)

I also gave a "General Public" comment, more or less on-the-fly, though I did have notes.  My comment came after the Director of Public Works, Perry Hart, commented about the new meters.  He had quoted some wrong information, and I spoke-up during his comment, only to be shushed by the new Mayor, Dave Walters.

This is an estimation of what I put together for my second comment:
I've probably done more research on smart meters than all of you put together, including Mr. Hart.  This technology has not been around for 25 years, as Mr. Hart indicated.  It was about 10 years ago that California started installing smart meters.  And California may also be the state with the most cities that have put a ban or moratorium on smart meters.
Electromagnetic hypersensitivy (EHS) is a condition recognized by the World Health Organization.  There is actually a plethora of information on the internet about EHS.  Medical studies have indicated that exposure to smart meters/radio transmitting meters could increase one's risk of developing EHS.  (See http://1.usa.gov/1W17qgC)
There is a group in Maine that have taken a public utility company all the way to the State Supreme Court.
For information about smart meters, check out Bioinitiative.org and EMFScientist.org.
You forced and deceived many of us into taking the new utility meters, and now you want US to pay to have you remove them?
Some say EHS is a dis-ability, because those afflicted with it really do have to be careful about electromagnetic field exposure, lest they find themselves severely affected.
But is EHS a DIS-ability?  Or is it an ABILITY?  Because we can sense high levels of electromagnetic frequencies most others can not?
Kind of like a smoke detector that has the ABILITY to sense smoke, and wake us up, before disaster happens...
(End of that comment)

The video of the city commission meeting is here.  I comment at 29:55 and again at 64:10.

We are dealing with unproven to be safe technology here.  And lots and lots of professionals saying that there IS cause for concern.  I know it.  I can feel it.  That's why I feel that paying an opt-out fee is agreeing to pay to not be harmed.  I refuse to enter into such an agreement.

What it also means is that we are getting the exact same service as before this whole smart meter fiasco started, but now we have to pay a fee for it because the utility company doesn't want to pay meter readers.  And I say, we can read our own meters, if that would help.  Just stop irradiating us, thank you very much!

October 20th Battle Creek City Commission Meeting

Once again, I spoke about smart meters at the City Commission meeting.  Public comments are limited to only three minutes, so I try to pack the most amount of information in, which is why I don't go into much detail, but have posted the links to the studies I mentioned.  The video of the meeting is here, and I start speaking at about 74:37.  While the buzzer is still buzzing, the Mayor addresses the audience, though I finish my speech before the buzzer ends.  Below is a script of what I said:
My comment is regarding the new utility meters the City of Battle Creek Water Department, Consumers Energy, and SEMCO Energy have been installing on our homes, which utilize radio frequencies. The following two studies are from PubMed.gov, a website of biomedical literature:
Electromagnetic hypersensitivity - an increasing challenge to the medical profession: Some people exposed to electromagnetic radiation, including the frequencies utilized by the new water meters, develop Electromagnetic hypersensitivity. While some cannot discriminate between an active radio frequency signal and placebo, others showed observable changes following exposure; reactions in the pupil, changes in heart rhythm, damage to red blood cells, and disturbed glucose metabolism in the brain.  http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26372109
Self-reporting of symptom development from exposure to radiofrequency fields of wireless smart meters in Victoria, Australia: a case series: Shows the most frequently reported symptoms to be insomnia, headaches, tinnitus, fatigue, cognitive disturbances, abnormal sensations, and dizziness, and pointed to the possibility that smart meters may have unique characteristics that lower people's threshold for symptom development.  http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25478801
Comments on the Draft Report by the California Council on Science & Technology “Health Impacts of Radio Frequency from Smart Meters,” by Daniel Hirsh, Nuclear Expert & Lecturer, University of California, Santa Cruz: Showing that smart meters produce between 50 & 160 times more cumulative whole body exposure than the cell phone.  http://www.committeetobridgethegap.org/pdf/110212_RFrad_comments.pdf
The fact remains that the new radio frequency smart utility meters have not been proven safe, yet evidence they cause harm continues to grow.

The fact is that we have not gone one generation using the level of wireless devices we are today, so we humans are the guinea pigs in this very first long-term study, with many of us already suffering the consequences of unproven to be safe technology.
The fact is that the Water Department has been working on an “opt-out” program for over three months now. I can understand how it may be difficult to word an opt-out program for something that many of us were forced into in the first place. But the bottom line is, we just want them removed.
Thank you for listening. May you all be blessed.

City Manager Gets High Marks...

The City Manager of Battle Creek, Rebecca Fleury, got "high marks" on her first year evaluation as the city manager. That story here.
However...

Fleury has been announcing at the City of Battle Creek City Commission meetings that "we" are working on a smart meter "opt-out" program.  She's said it a few times now, yet the opt-out program has not yet manifested.

We actually never opted-in to the smart meter program in the first place.  The City of Battle Creek smart meter water meters were unlawfully installed on our property, according to Michigan Act 328 of 1931750.539d.

Smart meters are a radio transmitting device that record and transmit data.  The City of Battle Creek Water Department admits to that.  And it is unlawful to install a device in a private place that records and transmits without consent.

But the City of Battle Creek installed recording and transmitting smart meter devices without our consent.

Some citizens of Battle Creek have been threatened with water shut-off if they did not accept a recording and transmitting smart meter device.

Almost three months ago, Perry L. Hart of the City of Battle Creek Water Department, also told us they were working on an opt-out program.

Yet to date, an opt-out program for the City of Battle Creek Water Department has not manifested.

The meters remain in place, despite numerous requests to the water department to remove them.

In my opinion, Rebecca Fleury and the City of Battle Creek Water Department both have not been doing their jobs in this regard.

May We All Be Blessed!

Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity

Electromagnetic hypersensitivity, or EHS, is described as a variety of non-specific reactions to electromagnetic frequency exposure.

Currently, people like me, who are having adverse reactions to electromagnetic fields, are being considered the proverbial canaries in the coal mine; an early warning sign that something is amiss.  Some of us "canaries" have immediate severe reactions to electromagnetic fields, while for others the effects are more cumulative, getting worse over time.

The woman in this video moved into a condo and immediately reacted to a bank of 26 smart meters outside her kitchen wall:

"I never thought utility meters could actually make me sick."
My first "canary" reaction was not quite as dramatic as the woman in the above video.  In December 2012/January of 2013 I purchased my first cell phone.  After about six months my "phone ear" started burning, then constantly hurting, every time I put the phone to my ear.  I did make the correlation,  and stopped putting the cell phone to my ear, and the pain went away for about two years.  At that time, I did not consider myself as one of the "canaries," and I don't think I even knew what a smart meter was either.

In May of 2014 I went down a healing path for multiple food sensitivities, using mostly organic, mostly local food, following a very traditional diet, (the GAPS diet), to heal myself of over 50 food sensitivities, and then enjoyed pretty radiant health and clear skin for about a year.  I describe the beginning of that journey here.

My health started taking a turn for the worse about six months after our gas company (SEMCO Energy) installed two new AMR meters here.  They insisted that the new meters were "not smart meters" and that they only transmitted "once a month," when the meter reader drove by.

Either two different installers and the Regional Operations Manager were gravely misinformed, or they all flat-out lied, because upon further questioning, I received different information about the two new AMR meters from David Williams, SEMCO's Regional Operations Manager.  I've written about that correspondence here.

The bottom line is,
the new AMR meters pulse non-ionizing wireless
microwave radiofrequency  radiation
10.67 times per MINUTE.

With an AMR meter, the utility companies make the distinction that the communication is only "one way," and therefore does not fall under the definition of a smart meter.  But they still expose us to unnecessary radiation 24/7/365.

This is the list of "symptoms" I am experiencing, or have experienced, and I've tried to list them in their order of occurrence
  • Pain in my "phone ear" is becoming more constant
  • High pitch ringing in ears, back of throat, and brain stem area
  • Muscle twitches and sudden weakness
  • Jaw pain and tension
  • Post-menopausal vaginal bleeding
  • Heart palpitation
  • Pulse racing up to 120 bpm for over 30 minutes while relaxing
  • Dizziness, vertigo
  • Achy joints, especially in my hands
  • Inability to type like I used to just a month or so ago
  • Inability to read out-loud like I used to just a month or so ago
  • Sleeplessness: waking up after only 2 hours of sleep with heart pounding, then inability to fall back asleep for about 2 hours, followed by the same cycle of sleep and wakefulness
  • Rashes
  • Pain and pressure in my head and eyes

The woman in this video describes her's and her husband's reactions to smart meters and cell towers:

"I realized that for the last year that me and my husband had been suffering, all these terrible illnesses, all these terrible conditions and symptoms,
was from this thing (the smart meter)."

Three other people describe their reactions to smart meters in this video:

"I fled Idaho because I was harmed tremendously."

And a father shows the radiation from a smart meter in his child's second floor bedroom in this video:

"Many scientists, physicians, and health care practitioners
around the world, in the United States, Canada, Europe,
are sounding the alarm that this stuff isn't as safe
as the people who are making money off of it
are claiming it is."

Here is a long, yet very informative video by Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt on the effects of smart meters and electromagnetic radiation:

"The only thing that parallels
the exponential increase in chronic neurological illness...
is the increased exposure to man-made electromagnetic fields."

And Dr. Darren Schmidt explains, "How Smart Meters Affect Your Body":

"The point is here, there is no safe levels of radio frequencies."

We've been trying different ways of blocking the radiation; we wrapped a sheet of lead around the back of the one AMR smart meter nearest to the bedroom, along with wire screen behind it, adding more wire screening behind the bed.  Though these efforts seem to have a small effect on my symptoms at first, the improvement seems to last only about 24 hours, and then I'm back to where I was, if not worse.  That may be due to the cumulative effect of electromagnetic radiation, because I doubt that we've been able to block it all.  Plus the City of Battle Creek Water Department has installed three of their smart meter devices on the property as well, and even though we've requested their removal, so far the Water Department has done nothing about our request.

We are now considering removing all of our natural gas service in order to remove the two AMR smart meters from the property.

During sleepless nights, prayer and meditation usually calms my nervous system down to the point where I can fall asleep for another two hours or so. Wireless radiation, like that which comes from AMR smart meters, is explained here. It puts the body into a "fight or flight" mode, and then the body is not able to heal and repair while in that mode. Waking up to my heart pounding sounds like I'm in that fight or flight mode, so it's no wonder I'm having new symptoms arise almost daily.

David Williams, SEMCO Energy's Regional Operations Manager, has begun ignoring me, so we've located a heating/cooling person who will remove and replace the AMR smart meters with 100% analog gas meters, however we have not yet located 100% analog gas meters.  If you are reading this and know of a source for 100% analog gas meters, please let me know.

I just want the unnecessary radiation to stop, and to have the AMR utility meters removed, and 100% analog meters, that have withstood the test of time for safety and reliability, returned.

May We All Be Blessed!

Battle Creek City Commission Meeting September 15, 2015

A video recording of the September 15, 2015 Battle Creek City Commission meeting is here.  I begin speaking at about 74:55 minutes in.

Here is the script of what I said:

My issue is with the smart meters the water department and all of the utility companies that service Battle Creek are installing, despite the mounting evidence that smart meters are of no value to customers, and actually bring significant privacy, health, safety, and security issues.

Industry has failed to report peer-reviewed studies on the health effects of smart meters, though there is a growing body of independent research accumulating, proving ill effects.

Michael R. Peevey, former senior executive at Pacific Gas & Electric, wrote in a leaked email:  “There really are people who feel pain… related to EMF… ”

In the news, Southboro, MA, the parents of a 12-year-old boy are suing his boarding school, stating that their son has “Electromagnetic HypersensitivitySyndrome,” and has suffered headaches, nosebleeds and nausea since the school activated a stronger wireless signal in 2013.  Children usually don’t make-up those kind of symptoms.

Dr. Deitrich Klinghardt, MD, PhD, Founder of the American Academy of Neural Therapy, Medical Director of the Institute of Neurobiology, lead clinician at the Sophia Health Institute, Founder and Chairman of the Institute for Neurobiology in Germany and Switzerland, has said:  “A body of more than 6,000 studies has been accumulated since the 1930’s, producing an overwhelming conclusion that exposure to microwave and electromagnetic fields is significantly harmful to all health and life itself.”

Live Blood Analysis shows, when exposed to smart meters, degradation and mutations of the live blood cells; a corrugation, called “bottle-cap formation,” known to occur due to oxidation and free radicals; and rouleaux, which causes the red blood cells to stack up, and makes it very difficult for the blood to deliver oxygen to the tissues.  That would explain headaches from smart meters that myself and other people are reporting.

It is morally unconscionable for ANY utility company to make a profit at the expense of the health and safety of the population they are serving.  And that is why I have a couple of questions (for the City of Battle Creek government):

What evidence do you have of the safety of the new utility meters, all of them, water, gas and electric, other than what comes from the manufacturer?

And do you have any independent third-party testing showing, or proving that the new utility meters are indeed perfectly safe?

Thank you for listening.  May you all be blessed.

Utility Companies, Lies, Deceptions, Cover-Ups & Fires

If the employees and agents of SEMCO ENERGY Gas Company are telling everyone what they told me, that their new utility meters only "wake-up" once a month when the meter reader drives by, they are being very misleading.  David Williams, SEMCO GAS Regional Operation Manager, wrote something quite different about their new utility meters in an email to me:

"The device... transmits in very short pulses of 5.86 milliseconds
for a total of about 1.5 minutes per day."

And of course, I did the math.  My mother's father, Buppa, would be proud of me.  He was quite the mathematician and one of the things we did together when I was younger was solve algebra problems.  I enjoyed math, and he did too.  So here's the math on the new gas meters:

1.5 minutes of pulses per day = 90,000 milliseconds of pulses per day

90,000 milliseconds of pulses per day (divided by)
5.86 milliseconds per pulse
= 15,358.36 pulses per day of 5.86 milliseconds per pulse

15,358.36 pulses per day of 5.86 milliseconds per pulse (divided by)
24 hours in the day
= 639.93 pulses per hour of 5.86 milliseconds each

639.93 pulses per hour of 5.86 milliseconds each (divided by)
60 minutes in an hour

= 10.67 pulses PER MINUTE of 5.86 milliseconds each

It's no wonder my "phone ear" started hurting again after about six months of being pulsed by that meter.  And it's no wonder other "symptoms" of electromagnetic sensitivity (Microwave Sickness) began to occur, such as sleeplessness, extreme tinnitus (ringing in the ears), and achy joints.

The GOOD news is that last night we wrapped a lead sheet around as much of the gas smart meter as possible, and all of those symptoms lessened!

Two days ago I left a phone message for David Williams, requesting a call back to schedule when he or one of SEMCO's employees or agents could come here and replace their pulse generating smart meter with a 100% analog/100% mechanical meter, but I haven't heard back from him yet.

And it occurred to me that Consumers Energy, our electric provider, wants us to pay about $200 in the first year to "opt-out" of their smart meter program (which is actually backwards because we never "opted-in" in the first place).

But if Consumers DOES charge us about $200 in the first year to not have a smart meter installed, what would stop SEMCO Energy (gas) from also charging us $200 to "opt-out," and what would stop the City of Battle Creek Water Department from also charging us $200 to "opt-out?"  That would be around $600 per year to utility companies for absolutely nothing.  Well, not really nothing.  It would be paying them to keep microwave radiation pulsing utility meters away, that's what it would be paying for.  Paying the utility companies to not harm me...

After Matthew D. Miller at the City of Battle Creek Water Department explained that the new utility meters were going to be labor saving for them, I asked if our water bills were going down.  He answered with a swift and immediate, "No!"  I later found out that the City of Battle Creek City Commissioners approved a 5% increase to water bills every year for 5 years, which, when you do the math, turns out to be a 28% total increase due to compounding.

So who stands to benefit from these new meters, anyway?  Not me.  Not you, unless you're a utility company.

After talking to numerous people about the new "smart" utility meters that are being installed all across Michigan by all of our utility companies, I found that not only has Battle Creek done an EXCELLENT job of keeping the citizens in the dark about the deployment of these new meters, but our media and press has also.

Searching the Battle Creek Enquirer for "smart meter" brings up nothing, no news stories about the new utility meters that are sometimes being forced, and sometimes being deceptively installed, onto our properties.  Who's not reporting the news around here?

A month or so back I wrote a letter to the Battle Creek Enquirer about smart meters.  The letter was edited down to a fraction of it's original size and returned to me for approval.  I explained to the Editor, Michael McCullough, that my strongest points were edited out, and submitted a rewrite, which was never published.

The Battle Creek Current, the city's newsletter that comes periodically in water bills, did announce Consumers Energy's new meters, but they did not call them "smart," even though they are.  The new meters are being called all kinds of things now.  Perhaps they are avoiding the word "smart" due to some bad press.

Another thing: I've read several news stories of smart meter fires where the smart meter was ruled out as the cause of the fire, and the blame was put on the homeowner, for having older, worn-out wiring immediately BEHIND the smart meter. This gives us reason to stop an electric smart meter installation by demanding the electric company give us time to have a licensed electrician inspect the wiring prior to installation, lest they (the electric company) be grossly negligent and held 100% responsible if they do not allow us the time to arrange for such an inspection.

May we all be blessed!
