Electromagnetic Fields & Plant Life

Starling W. Childs, M.S., Geologist and Forestry Consultant, Adjunct Faculty, Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, President, Berkshire-Litchfield Environmental Council:

"We've known, certainly, that electromagnetic fields affected trees..."

Of critical importance to humans, trees play a major role in producing the oxygen we breathe and cleaning carbon dioxide out of the air.  They also stabilize the environment, prevent erosion, and provide food and shelter for wildlife.  One large tree can provide a day's supply of oxygen for four people.

But trees, like humans, are affected by electromagnetic fields.

Cell towers (large mega-towers, 5G or 5th Generation small cells, DAS nodes/towers), antenna, smart meters and other wireless transmitting utility meters (electric, natural gas and water), WiFi, cellphones, and other wireless devices introduced in the U.S. within the last 40 years or so, all create electromagnetic fields we were not exposed to previously.

The majority of people in the U.S. were still using land-lines prior to 2002, and at that time Internet was "largely stationary," which means that everything was hard-wired, not wireless.

More facts and information about the demographics of mobile device ownership and adoption in the U.S. can be found HERE

The above picture shows how one tree was damaged by a nearby cell tower.  More images and information on how "Wireless Kills Trees," can be found HERE.

This above image shows a vine surrounding a 'smart' meter in Ontario Canada, and the dangerous effects spiked (pulse modulated) transmitting utility meter radiation has.  Image and story HERE.

In a school experiment, the plate of cress seeds on the LEFT were germinated in a school room that had WiFi routers.  The plate on the RIGHT was germinated in another room without any WiFi routers.

The cress on the left were clearly affected by the electromagnetic fields from the WiFi router.  Read the full story HERE.

Within the last several years, electromagnetic fields in our everyday environment have increased exponentially, and with the "roll-out" of 5G small cell towers, it will only increase more exponentially.

"Wireless radiation has biological effects.  Period."

Instead of ignoring the evidence of harm done by wireless technology, let's begin to reduce our exposure so that we don't end up like the cress on the left, mutated and/or dead, prematurely.

Governor Snyder Signs Michigan's 5G Bills

Gov. Snyder Signs Bills To Ease Shift To 5G Wireless Technology

This story should read:

Gov. Snyder has signed legislation that strips control of public right of way space from local authorities while giving telecom companies billions of dollars worth of Michigan's real estate space for a pittance.

The dense network of "small cells" will exponentially increase levels of microwave radiofrequency (RF) radiation in neighborhoods all across Michigan. RF radiation has clear carcinogenic effects (see the National Institute of Health - National Toxicology Program cellphone radiation study peer review results released earlier this year).

This legislation has met opposition from the citizens of Michigan since the very first hearing in Michigan's senate on November 2, 2017. By signing this legislation into law, Snyder has shown the people of Michigan how, once again, industry is more important than the health and wellness of the people.

Also, Michigan news agencies have done an excellent job ignoring the grassroots resistance to Michigan's 5G bills.

Montgomery County Rocks It - Opposition to 5G Small Cell Towers

Montgomery County, Maryland, Rocks It in Their Opposition to 5G Small Cell Towers

Bravo to the citizens that testified!

The evidence of the safety of densification of wireless infrastructure does NOT exist.  Period.

Some of the citizens wore tags that read "Work With Us."

Please work with us, the citizens, the people who live here, who have legitimate concerns about the safety of small cell towers located or being installed only feet away from our homes.  Please work with us...

5G Wireless Technology: Millimeter Wave Health Effects

5G Wireless Technology: Millimeter Wave Health Effects

by Joel M. Moskowitz, Ph.D.
Director
Center for Family and Community Health
School of Public Health
University of California, Berkeley

The emergence of 5G, fifth-generation telecommunications networks, has been in the news lately because the wireless industry has been pushing controversial legislation at the state level to expedite the deployment of this technology. The legislation would block the rights of local governments and their citizens to control the installation of cellular antennas in the public “right-of-way.” Cell antennas may be installed on public utility poles every 10-20 houses in urban areas. According to the industry, as many as 50,000 new cell sites will be required in California alone.

Although many major cities and newspapers have opposed this legislation, the potential health risks from the proliferation of new cellular antenna sites have been ignored. These cell antennas will expose the population to new sources of radio frequency radiation including MMWs.

5G will employ low- (0.6 GHz - 3.7 GHz), mid- (3.7 – 24 GHz), and high-band frequencies (24 GHz and higher). In the U.S., the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has allocated “low-band” spectrum at 0.6 GHz (e.g., 600 MHz), “mid-band” spectrum in the 3.5 GHz range, and 11 GHz of “high-band” frequencies including licensed spectrum from 27.5-28.35 GHz and 37-40 GHz, as well as unlicensed spectrum from 64-71 GHz which is open to all wireless equipment manufacturers.

Prior to widespread deployment, major cell phone carriers are experimenting with new technologies that employ “high-band” frequencies in communities across the country. The “high-band” frequencies largely consist of millimeter waves (MMWs), a type of electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths of one to ten millimeters and frequencies ranging from 30 to 300 GHz (or billions of cycles per second).

The characteristics of MMWs are different than the “low-band” (i.e., microwave) frequencies which are currently in use by the cellular and wireless industries. MMWs can transmit large amounts of data over short distances. The transmissions can be directed into narrow beams that travel by line-of-sight and can move data at high rates (e.g., up to 10 billion bits per second) with short lags (or latencies) between transmissions. The signals are blocked by buildings, and foliage can absorb much of their energy. Also, the waves can be reflected by metallic surfaces. Although antennas can be as small as a few millimeters, “small cell” antenna arrays may consist of dozens or even hundreds of antenna elements.

What does research tell us about the biologic and health effects of millimeter waves?

Millimeter waves (MMWs) are mostly absorbed within 1 to 2 millimeters of human skin and in the surface layers of the cornea. Thus, the skin or near-surface zones of tissues are the primary targets of the radiation. Since skin contains capillaries and nerve endings, MMW bio-effects may be transmitted through molecular mechanisms by the skin or through the nervous system.

Severe and Debilitating Affects from 5G Technology

Karen Strode speaking before the Senate Energy and Technology Committee explaining the dangers of 5G technologies and asking if there will be medical accommodations made for people like her, who will be disabled by it.

Derrick Broze Educates Houston City Council on 5G Tech

"...there are a number of privacy and health concerns related to the roll-out of 5G technology.  This technology involves putting in what they call small cells.  The small cell waves only travel about 500 feet, which means they need to be installed nearly everywhere..."

The Nation: How Big Wireless Made Us Think That Cell Phones Are Safe: A Special Investigation

Carroll-Hertsgaard-cellphone_img

The disinformation campaign—and massive radiation increase—behind the 5G rollout.

MARCH 29, 2018

Things didn’t end well between George Carlo and Tom Wheeler; the last time the two met face-to-face, Wheeler had security guards escort Carlo off the premises. As president of the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association (CTIA), Wheeler was the wireless industry’s point man in Washington. Carlo was the scientist handpicked by Wheeler to defuse a public-relations crisis that threatened to strangle his infant industry in its crib. This was back in 1993, when there were only six cell-phone subscriptions for every 100 adults in the United States. But industry executives were looking forward to a booming future.

Remarkably, cell phones had been allowed onto the US consumer market a decade earlier without any government safety testing. Now, some customers and industry workers were being diagnosed with cancer. In January 1993, David Reynard sued the NEC America Company, claiming that his wife’s NEC phone caused her lethal brain tumor. After Reynard appeared on national TV, the story went viral. A congressional subcommittee announced an investigation; investors began dumping their cell-phone stocks; and Wheeler and the CTIA swung into action.

A week later, Wheeler announced that his industry would pay for a comprehensive research program. Cell phones were already safe, Wheeler told reporters; the new research would simply “re-validate the findings of the existing studies.”

George Carlo seemed like a good bet to fulfill Wheeler’s mission. He was an epidemiologist who also had a law degree, and he’d conducted studies for other controversial industries. After a study funded by Dow Corning, Carlo had declared that breast implants posed only minimal health risks. With chemical-industry funding, he had concluded that low levels of dioxin, the chemical behind the Agent Orange scandal, were not dangerous. In 1995, Carlo began directing the industry-financed Wireless Technology Research project (WTR), whose eventual budget of $28.5 million made it the best-funded investigation of cell-phone safety to date.

Outside critics soon came to suspect that Carlo would be the front man for an industry whitewash. They cited his dispute with Henry Lai, a professor of biochemistry at the University of Washington, over a study that Lai had conducted examining whether cell-phone radiation could damage DNA. In 1999, Carlo and the WTR’s general counsel sent a letter to the university’s president urging that Lai be fired for his alleged violation of research protocols. Lai accused the WTR of tampering with his experiment’s results. Both Carlo and Lai deny the other’s accusations.

Critics also attacked what they regarded as the slow pace of WTR research. The WTR was merely “a confidence game” designed to placate the public but stall real research, according to Louis Slesin, editor of the trade publication Microwave News. “By dangling a huge amount of money in front of the cash-starved [scientific] community,” Slesin argued, “Carlo guaranteed silent obedience. Anyone who dared complain risked being cut off from his millions.” Carlo denies the allegation.

Whatever Carlo’s motives might have been, the documented fact is that he and Wheeler would eventually clash bitterly over the WTR’s findings, which Carlo presented to wireless-industry leaders on February 9, 1999. By that date, the WTR had commissioned more than 50 original studies and reviewed many more. Those studies raised “serious questions” about cell-phone safety, Carlo told a closed-door meeting of the CTIA’s board of directors, whose members included the CEOs or top officials of the industry’s 32 leading companies, including Apple, AT&T, and Motorola.

Carlo sent letters to each of the industry’s chieftains on October 7, 1999, reiterating that the WTR’s research had found the following: “The risk of rare neuro-epithelial tumors on the outside of the brain was more than doubled…in cell phone users”; there was an apparent “correlation between brain tumors occurring on the right side of the head and the use of the phone on the right side of the head”; and “the ability of radiation from a phone’s antenna to cause functional genetic damage [was] definitely positive….”

"Is A Cell Tower Going Up in Your Neighborhood?"

"If it's not now, it may soon."

“…Julie Watts asks the question you’re not supposed to ask:  Are there legitimate health concerns?"

Why are you not supposed to ask that question?

The Telecom Act of 1996 made it illegal to refuse the installation of telecom equipment for health reasons (radio frequency emissions).  Telecom can, will, and have sued us if we do.

Why do you think it was necessary to include that in the Telecom Act of 1996?

Maybe because cell phones were released with NO pre-market testing, and, after-market testing plus the experience of perhaps thousands of people, show that cell phone use can lead to, or contribute to, cancer, especially cancers where the cell phones are held or carried.

In fact, a highly credentialed cancer researcher recently released a statement definitely linking cell phone radiation to cancer.

However, in the video above, California Assembly Member, Bill Quirk, former NASA scientist, says, “I know scientifically that putting up these… cell towers are safe.”  Later in the interview he admits that he is motivated by votes, (not health or safety).

What we really need is actual human safety testing.

That is why I propose all the people in government who want to support 5G small cell towers and DAS nodes in public right of ways, to have them installed every 500 feet INSIDE their property first, and get back with us in a generation.

“The bottom line is that caution is often less convenient,
but it is seldom harmful." *
